4 reasons to avoid online travel agencies
1. Mark-ups on flights
Most OTAs earn money by adding commission to the price of flights. Their mark-up can be up to 140% more expensive than flights booked directly on the Ryanair website.
2. Hidden charges on flight extras
In addition to surcharges on flights, many OTAs add on hidden charges to travel extras such as bags and Fast Track, meaning the customer pays more than the regular Ryanair fee.
3. Changing or withholding contact details
Passengers are unaware that in many cases their important customer information is being changed or even withheld from their airline. Instead, many OTAs pass on a fake email address for the passenger to Ryanair, making it impossible for Ryanair to contact the customer directly. Without customers contact details, Ryanair is unable to send essential information relating to flight updates, cancellations or to pass on relevant COVID-19 travel forms.
4. Blocking refunds
If a refund is requested, Ryanair will refund the passenger credit cards linked to the flight booking. However, where Ryanair is provided with OTA credit card details rather than the passenger s this is not possible.
